Was reading a Marketing Daily Article written by Boston Consulting Group’s John Rose who shared some thoughts about his firm’s latest report “The CMO’s Imperative – Tackling the new digital realities”.
One (of many good points) struck a chord with me. He said “The new watchwords for marketers are transparency, authenticity and engagement — emphases that require radically different structures and capabilities than those needed for the dominant traditional model of centrally created, custom-crafted messages broadcast or pushed to consumers, points out Rose.”
I say “hooray” and put the emphasis on TRANSPARENCY, AUTHENTICITY AND ENGAGEMENT – it’s about time! I think it is fantastic that consumers are more aware than ever and that deceitfulness is getting flushed out all the time now.
I hear a lot of people still saying that the Internet is basically evil, what with identity theft, slanderous tweets, nasty dating experiences, child porn etc., etc., etc. I get it and hate those things too, but there is an up side right? Bad guys (and gals), untruths in advertising and other nefarious things can’t remain hidden for very long anymore can they?
Internet Marketing and Social Media may well be bringing us back to a world where we NEED and WANT to trust before we do business. We’ll rely on our “friends” to help us be more discerning and take all advertising with a grain of salt….or pepper more likely.
I think the Internet is changing our world for the better. There will always be those “bad guys” who will find a way to exploit. Our job is to be careful about what we say, to whom and on what medium, to report all things untoward and be smart about how and whom we let into our cyber worlds.
